The Hero's journey, an ancient Culture

In this thought-provoking blog post, we delve into the transformative journeys of two iconic figures: Akhenaten and and his world famous son - Tut

Was Tutankhamun a Hero?

Although his biography remains somewhat elusive, the story of Tutankhamun is undeniably fascinating. Born with the name Tutankhaten, his father, Akhenaten, devoted his reign to the worship of Aten, the sun disk, and sought to dismantle the powerful influence of the Amun priests. This radical shift ignited a civil war, plunging the kingdom into turmoil.

In the midst of this unrest, young Tutankhaten was given a name honouring the very deity his father championed. Yet fate had its own plans. Following the deaths of both his father and mother, Tutankhaten ascended the throne at a tender age. His kingdom was fractured, the people divided, and the old ways dismantled.

But what did Tut do when he became king?

In a striking act of leadership, he changed his name to Tutankhamun, restoring honour to the ancient god Amun. He reopened the temples, revived the sacred rituals, and worked to heal the wounds inflicted by years of religious and political strife. Through these decisions, he brought a fragile peace to the nation.

This leaves us with a thought-provoking question:

Was Tutankhamun a hero who bravely restored balance, or was he simply a victim of his father’s destructive ambitions?
